Kristie R Shelton, APRN

Kristie Shelton, APRN, is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with Norton Children’s Infectious Diseases, a title she has held with the practice since 2007.

Her clinical care responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients in the practice’s outpatient clinic, coordinating care for pediatric patients with HIV infection, HCV infection, and other primary immune deficiencies. She also is the practice coordinator for patients receiving intravenous antibiotics.

Her goal is to be a trusted source of medical information for families that helps them understand their child's disease process, guiding them in making medical decisions.

Kristie’s clinical and research areas of interest including HIV and hepatitis C, with an additional research focus on vaccines.

Kristie first came to Louisville in 1999, when she served as a staff nurse in the “Just for Kids” Critical Center. She spent nearly two years as a nurse coordinator with the University of Louisville’s pediatric clinical trials unit. In 2001, she joined the university’s pediatric infectious diseases team as a nurse coordinator, coordinating and reviewing laboratory and radiology tests, triaging phone calls to referring physicians, and educating parents and children on diseases processes.

She graduated in 1998 with her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Kentucky and earned her Master of Science in nursing in 2006 from Indiana University.

When she isn’t with her patients, she enjoys cooking, playing golf, riding rollercoasters, and visiting small towns.
