Over the past thirty-plus years the average house has expanded. Yet the average family has grown smaller. The practicality of many of these homes is diminished and their use of space and resources become frivolous.

I have no intention to disparage the “mansion”. On many occasions I have enjoyed my role with a team of craftsman in the creation of some beautiful and extravagant structures. But I have also built houses where size seems to be the main criteria. And with many of these, the use of cheap and imitation materials fails to impart a “soul” to the structure, a metamorphosis from house to a home.

At Destiny Bay Construction and Woodworks, I hope to focus on the smaller house, the cottage, using resources to enhance and develop style both within and without the house. To find that “home”, that can be warm and inviting inside and embraced by the world around it on the outside.
