Matthew Dettra is a certified physician assistant practicing at Schweiger Dermatology Group.

Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Arcadia University in Glenside, PA, where he also went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies.
He completed the PA residency program at Schweiger Dermatology Group, training under renown dermatologists in Center City, Philadelphia. Matt is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and the American Association of Physician Assistants. Prior to earning his masters, he worked as a medical assistant in dermatology which provided him with a solid foundation in the field.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MATT DETRA PA-C

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I am originally from Philadelphia and lived here for about 22 years. I moved to Bucks County about 4 years ago and have been there since. I attended Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania for both my undergraduate degree in biology, and my Master’s degree in medical science (specifically, physician assistant studies).

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
With what little free time I have, I’m usually squeezing in a quick workout or walking my pup, Captain, around local parks. My partner, Anthony, and I are also in the very (very) early stages of house hunting, so lately we’ve been spending a lot of time discussing our design styles, desired location, etc (in short, I spend a lot of time on the Zillow app). Other than that, I try to make as much time for friends and family as I can.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF WORKOUT CLASS?
I have actually only taken one workout class, for charity. It was a SoulCycle class and I have never sweat so much in my life, so I’m realizing I probably don’t work out hard enough on my own haha!

WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING ON TV RIGHT NOW?
Pretty much anything on HGTV is a safe bet.

WHAT IS ONE ITEM THAT YOU NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT?
I’d have to say my phone, which I feel like a lot of people would probably agree. I do so much from my phone that it’d be hard to function without it during the day. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing!

IF YOUR FRIENDS WERE TO COME OVER FOR DINNER, WHAT WOULD YOU COOK FOR THEM?
I’ve been on a shrimp scampi kick lately and I have no idea why, so probably that. Anything Italian I like to cook, but I also enjoy cooking lighter, healthier meals. I’ve been incorporating more plant-based foods into my diet as well, so I’d probably add some of that in there too.

WHAT IS YOUR COFFEE ORDER?
I actually don’t drink coffee, which is probably why I need a solid 8 hours of sleep to function during the day.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO WORK IN THE DERMATOLOGY FIELD?
Dermatology is such a unique field, in that there is the perfect mix of patient interaction, counseling, and procedures. Also, most patients are hyperaware of their skin, so I have found that they genuinely want to be at the office for help, which is such a gratifying and reassuring feeling. Overall, every patient presents differently, and I love the challenges and rewards each day brings. There is nothing better than forming connections and trust with patients.
