Emily Harris, CD

"Emily has been working as a doula since completing her birth doula training through Bastyr University's Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations in 2016. Before starting doula work, she had been a middle school teacher for 11 years in Tukwila, Highline, and Kent. She went into teaching to help inform and guide the next generation and has transitioned that passion into her work as a doula. She has been using her teaching experience to work with Penny Simkin to assist in her Childbirth Education classes for those planning a hospital birth and those planning a birth center/home birth. Emily's philosophy around birth is the philosophy of each individual she works with - she believes in guiding clients along whatever path they choose for themselves. Emily's priorities as a birth doula are to provide inclusive support to clients of all backgrounds during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the postpartum period. She brings added compassion and understanding to the birth process through her ability to listen to her clients and anticipate their struggles and needs. When not with clients, Emily can be found reading young adult fiction, listening to true crime podcasts, and flying kites at the beach. Rate: $1600"
