Akane Cristina Tanaka, M.D.

Dr. Tanaka has been with Richmond Pediatrics since 2011. After graduating from the University of Dallas, she attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She then moved to Hershey, PA to complete her residency at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital where she served as chief resident. Because of her interest in international medicine and learning about different cultural approaches to medicine, Dr. Tanaka has done some medical work abroad including infectious disease research in Guadalajara, Mexico during medical school, and caring for children with heart problems in Guayaquil, Ecuador during her 2nd and 3rd year of residency. Dr. Tanaka met her husband, a local ER physician, during medical school and they elected to move to the Pacific Northwest for its cooler climate, mountains and ocean. In her free time, she likes to explore the surrounding area with her husband and their exuberant wirehaired pointing griffon pup. She enjoys traveling locally and internationally, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, scuba diving and experimenting with her gardening skills.
