Samir Mahfouz, MD, is the chronic pain specialist at Bottom Line Pain Clinic in Tucson and Scottsdale, Arizona. As a board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Mahfouz has chosen to focus on functional medicine, a new approach to chronic pain management that doesn’t rely on narcotics and other medications. Instead, he creates balance throughout the body to reduce pain and improve his patients’ well-being. 
Dr. Mahfouz began his career in medicine after earning his medical degree at Kasr El Aini, a teaching hospital affiliated with Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt. Following his graduation, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, to complete an internship and residency at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.
After over 20 years of working as an anesthesiologist, Dr. Mahfouz started treating exploring functional medicine: a holistic, comprehensive, and science-backed approach to reducing pain and improving quality of life. Today, he’s the chair of functional medicine in the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. 
At Bottom Line Pain Clinic, Dr. Mahfouz sees patients for a variety of conditions that frequently cause discomfort, like psoriasis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and migraines. He enjoys seeing notable improvements in his patients’ symptoms and their ability to enjoy life.
