About Dr. Matthew J. Crawford
Matthew J. Crawford, DO, PhD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports injuries. Dr. Crawford has a special interest in revision surgery of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and arthroscopic shoulder procedures such as rotator cuff repair, SLAP/labral repairs, biceps tenodesis, and AC reconstruction. Beyond sports medicine, Dr. Crawford provides care for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, joint replacements, and fractures.
Dr. Crawford earned his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, attending the Medical Scientists Training Program while concurrently obtaining his Ph.D. in biomedical sciences. He completed his residency at Michigan State University in East Lansing, where he cared for the MSU football team and was a team physician for local high schools. 
Dr. Crawford completed a sports medicine fellowship with advanced training in the arthroscopic treatments of sports injuries at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. During his fellowship training, Dr. Crawford also grew his expertise as an assistant team physician with the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, and the University of Houston Cougars.
Dr. Crawford shares his knowledge through orthopaedic research papers and through authoring of a chapter in a leading orthopaedic textbook about healing meniscal tears of the knee. His research project addressing allograft safety won the prestigious Cabaud Award, while his research about labral tears of the hip earned the Frank Stinchfield Award.
