Joseph T Dougherty, MD

Dr. Dougherty is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. Dr. Dougherty diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. He specializes in sports medicine and is trained in ultrasound-guided joint injections.

Dr. Dougherty earned his medical degree at West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed Family Medicine residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center - St. Margaret and a Sports Medicine fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital.

He is currently on faculty at the Forbes Family Medicine residency program in Monroeville, where he teaches residents in both family and sports medicine. A member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, Dr. Dougherty frequently lectures on common injuries and concussion management across the country. He was previously a team physician for several area high schools as well as the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also serves as pitching coach for a local high school.

He is experienced in administering ultrasound-guided injections. He speaks English.
