A lot of our older patients may have emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and until you speak with them, you really don't realize how big of a burden this disease process has on their lives. Often times they feel they can't keep up with their grandkids, or can't go on vacation, or go for walks with their dog. You really have to listen to the patient in order to devise a treatment plan that works for them.
