Jarrod R. Smith, MD, is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon, sports medicine specialist, and one of a select few surgeons in the state of Kentucky trained to use the Regeneten™ patch for rotator cuff repair. He provides state-of-the-art care at Smith Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Ashland, Kentucky.
A homegrown surgeon with world-class training, Dr. Smith grew up in South Point, Ohio. An athlete and scholar from early on, he was named All-Ohio in two sports and graduated valedictorian of his high school class. Dr. Smith went on to play football at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky, where he was a member of the 2001 NAIA national champion team. He then transferred to the University of Tennessee where he was a member of the football team.
Dr. Smith earned his medical degree at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. There, he became a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, where he was named chief resident. 
Following his residency, Dr. Smith completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida. During this time, he trained under renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews and treated many college and professional athletes.
Dr. Smith provides comprehensive orthopedic sports medicine care, but he has a special interest in overhead throwing injuries and rotator cuff repair surgery. At Smith Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, he treats a wide range of injuries, including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus tears in the knee. He performs shoulder and knee replacement surgeries as well as regenerative medicine techniques like platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
