New York State Zoo at Thompson Park

Before the dawn of modern America, massive bison and elk wandered the land now known as New York State, while lynx prowled in dense forests and giant eagles soared through the sky. Though that landscape and its inhabitants have drastically changed, many of these animals can still be found in one place: the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park. Spanning 32 acres, the zoo is home to a variety of species such as the American Elk, Bobcat, Mountain Lion, Black Bears and Grey Wolves just to name a few. Beyond the ecosystems built around these animals, wildflowers skirt Olmsted Pond, and fluttering specimens fill the Heather A. Freeman Butterfly House. A trail system is designed to carry you through interesting landscapes while pointing out several bird and plant species.

The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park inspires conservation and fascination with the rich heritage of New York’s native wildlife and habitats through engaging educational experiences. By partnering with state and local conservation and education organizations, The Zoo at Thompson Park is constantly striving to increase the guest experience with on-site activities and events all year long. In addition to a family friendly, and educational visit, the Zoo at Thompson Park is also a great place to host a birthday party, a wild wedding, or a corporate event which is sure to be an adventure for the entire group! As we work hard build on our success and add to the habitat content with additional species, we continue to rely on community support to achieve our vision and focus on being what the North Country community deserves – an amazing zoo experience, with the understanding that conservation and education is at the heart of all we do.
