Dr. Steven J Smith, MD

Steven J. Smith, M.D., FACS, is a general surgeon and member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties integrated within Baptist Health South Florida. He has more than 38 years of experience diagnosing and treating a broad spectrum of conditions and diseases, including operative intervention. He manages a patient’s preoperative diagnosis, performs elective and emergency surgery on most body systems and provides comprehensive postoperative care.

Dr. Smith is Board certified in surgery. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in New York, N.Y. He completed a surgical internship at Tulane University School of Medicine, Charity Hospital of New Orleans and a four-year surgical residency at the same facility and other hospitals affiliated with Tulane University School of Medicine.

Dr. Smith has received local and national recognition for clinical excellence. He is past chief of staff of Fishermen’s Community Hospital and past president of the Monroe County Medical Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
