Dr. Hernandez holds board certification in gastroenterology. He completed an internal medicine residency at what is now New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital and a fellowship in clinical nutrition at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He served as an instructor in clinical medicine before becoming a research fellow at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University.
Dr. Hernandez returned to practice in New York after completing fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and working as a gastroenterologist in Louisiana's Ochsner Clinic.
