Jumana Abdelkarim, MD, provides care with the Springfield Clinic’s Endocrinology Department and sees seeing patients at Springfield Clinic Carpenter.Dr. Abdelkarim earned her medical degree from the University of Tripoli School of Medicine in Libya. She completed her residency and endocrinology fellowship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield."Since I was a kid, I always imagined myself being a doctor," says Dr. Abdelkarim. "When I see someone sick, I help and treat them, and it feels so good when they get better."The scope of her practice includes diabetes management as well as other lipid disorders and hormone and gland issues. She specializes in treating thyroid issues."A lot of younger patients are already dealing with thyroid issues," says Dr. Abdelkarim. "Treating it on the front end can help them for the rest of their lives."In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, going to different parks and, in the fall, visiting pumpkin patches.
