Joseph J. Pulvirenti, MD

Joseph J. Pulvirenti, MD received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Pulvirenti is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases and worked at Cook County Hospital until he retired in 2014.

Failing retirement, Dr. Pulvirenti worked nine months in Malawi with Doctors Without Borders before winding up in Indiana working locum tenons at Beacon Health System. He now joins as a part time infectious disease consultant at Elkhart General Hospital.

He is a member of the American Medical Association, Chicago Medical Society, Infectious Disease Society of America, American Society of Microbiology and Society Hospital Epidemiologist of America. Dr. Pulvirenti is also the co-founder of the South Side HIV Physicians Group and the previous president of the Chicago Area Infectious Disease Society. Dr. Pulvirenti has also been on several medical missions trips to India, Africa and Haiti. He has lectured on topics including HIV, tuberculosis, infection control and MRSA and edited papers for the Clinical Infectious Diseases Journal and The Journal of the American Medical Association.
