William Keithcart, LADC, Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders Counseling

William Keithcart is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC) and a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). He is the DayOne Program Supervisor at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Bill specializes in a variety of therapeutic techniques and treatment modalities; motivational interviewing, emotion regulation, relapse prevention, Gestalt therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindfulness, EMDR, family systems, cognitive behavior therapy, group psychotherapy, psychodynamic therapy, meditation, reality therapy, Transactional Analysis and the neurobiology of addiction.

After a 14 year career in the airline industry, Bill began his work in the field of addictions in 1999. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings; from residential, a methadone clinic, and currently an outpatient program. He has witnessed the value of evidence-based best practices for successful treatment outcomes. Bill finds it most rewarding to help guide his clients in becoming aware of their resiliency. He works together with his clients to create a new sense of hope on their road to recovery. He believes that as one’s perspective changes, gratitude emerges, and an appreciation for a healthy lifestyle becomes possible.

While the field of addictions can be challenging, Bill promotes a sense of confidence in his clients by helping them find their voice in self-advocacy. He finds it a privilege to be on this journey with them as they achieve a new lifestyle without using mood altering substances. Bill believes that a therapeutic relationship provides the foundation for clients to practice self-care and emotional honesty in their personal recovery.
