Dr. Mathews obtained his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He then remained in NY to complete his postgraduate internship and residency training in orthopedic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was named Chief Orthopedic Surgery Resident. Dr. Mathews completed his fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, specializing in adult lower extremity knee and hip reconstruction.

Dr. Mathews has many publications and presentations to his credit and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Dr. Mathews is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and speaks fluent Greek and has good working knowledge of Spanish.

He maintains medical staff privileges at Texas Orthopedic Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, and Memorial City Hospital.  He is present for all his surgeries, conducts daily rounds, and takes care of patients directly.
