About Oakcliff Bed and Breakfast

On the National Historic Registry since 1998, Oakcliff, in the breathtakingly beautiful Saratoga County, is the gateway to the Adirondacks, and likely the best business decision you'll ever make when it comes to out-of-town accommodations. Tired of the souless hotels and cafeteria style breakfasts? We get it; we once lived it too. You'll find plenty of soul here at Oakcliff. For starters, Estate at Oakcliff is set up on a cliff, overlooking the breathtaking, historic Erie Canal waterway.Oakcliff is said to have among "the best views on the Erie Canal" with "a spectacular view of the Mohawk River" (The Erie Canal Legacy, 2000; Historic Houses of the Hudson River Valley, 2001). Oakcliff boasts a B & B like no other in the Saratoga County region.Oakcliff boasts a B & B like no other in the Saratoga County region. Relax on a hammock at cliff side and feel the wind off the waters of the majestic Mohawk River. Or take a stroll down a long, winding dockside path and enjoy a picnic at the river's edge on a lazy fall, leaf-blown afternoon. Cozy up with a book in the famous library where General Grant would converse with T. G. Younglove, first Speaker of the Assembly and guest of the home's previous owner; let the intellectual energy of the Great Library feed your soul. Speaking of intellectual energy: Oakcliff has a business center comparable to any 5-star hotel with a copy center, high-speed wireless internet in every room, with several comfortable, quiet places in the Inn to do your work, including the President Grant Library, at the very desk President Grant sat at to do his own work over 150 years ago. Four presidents in total have stayed at Oakcliff: Presidents Grant, Hayes, Arthur, and Garfield - all former guests of the 2nd estate owner, banker/financier Truman G. Younglove. Oakcliff was originally owned and built in 1835 by Saratoga County Judge Duncan Mac Martin.

Period antiques fill every single room in the house from classical Empire and Chippendale to fine French Marquetry and Parquetry, adding old depth and beauty to an already quaint and striking bed and breakfast setting. Take a walk into the estate parlor, where a room filled with music from a self-playing Steinway Grand fills the air with Gershwin, Chopin, or Tchaikovsky. Sit. Relax. Reminisce.
Rent a waterside room with a view of the Mohawk River as it winds down a mountainous terrain of trees, soaring hawks, and wildflowers. Around late-September, October, enjoy a breathtaking fall view with colors like you've never seen before. Breakfast includes a healthy, hearty combination of diet-friendly selections with fresh squeezed orange juice, home baked muffins and cakes, and local breads warmed inside an Aga Cooker that never sleeps. French Pressed coffee is served fresh and piping hot with local baked goods from bakeries throughout the Adirondack region for a blend of traditional and vegan delicacies alike. Picnic your breakfast outside on one of the back porches and enjoy the amazing view. Also - if there is anything you need that we don't have ready for you upon arrival, just ask us, because we love to accommodate.

After a spectacular breakfast, head to a number of regional destinations: Saratoga Springs for shopping or a fabulous dinner and night out on the town. Ask us about any number of local festivities - fall festivals, Troy's farmers market, wine tasting, apple picking, pumpkin farms - let us be your reason for celebrating fall! Like to shop? We're within an hour of some of the North Country's best skiing destinations - Manchester, Bennington, Burlington, Killington, West Mountain, Gore Mountain, Lake Placid, and Mount Snow among others.
