Makamson is skilled in innovative diagnostic and treatment techniques to help patients with a wide array of issues, including peripheral artery disease, venous diseases, varicose veins, aneurysms, leg and foot ulcers, renal artery disease and stroke prevention. The practice offers on-site ultrasound exams and is a top provider of limb salvage services and other preventive care options aimed at helping men and women from throughout Southern Alabama enjoy optimal health at every age.
Board certified in vascular and general surgery, Dr. Makamson is a summa cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, followed by a five-year general surgery residency at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, and a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Missouri.
Dedicated to providing his patients with the most innovative treatment options and custom care solutions designed for their needs, Dr. Makamson has extensive experience in minimally-invasive procedures, including arterial and venous procedures that require no incisions. The outpatient lab he established at Vascular Associates of South Alabama is the first private outpatient endovascular lab in Alabama and is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging and treatment technology aimed at addressing a broad array of venous and arterial diseases and most treatments can be done in our friendly and personalized outpatient office setting. Dr. Makamson is a proud member of the Outpatient and Endovascular Interventional Society (OEIS) as well as the Cardiovascular Coalition (CVC).
When not caring for patients, Dr. Makamson enjoys playing and composing music on guitar, fishing, and spending time with his family. He welcomes the opportunity to treat new patients, and the practice accepts most major medical insurance plans.
