Originally used as a stage stop in the 1800's for weary travelers, this area became home to families whose livelihoods were tied to the forest around them. Some were loggers and some were tie hacks who cut ties for the railroad. These tough and hardy people built a community building in 1906 for social gatherings. This building would later be purchased by a man named Dehart and operated as the Ten Mile Saloon.
Through the 1930's, 40's and 50's, the Ten Mile Saloon hosted big bands like Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Louie Armstrong. As many as 300 people came to hear the bands perform. Word is that Hank Williams, Sr. actually played here as well.
During the 1960's, 70's and 80's, Nestor and Dorothy Miller ran the Ten Mile Dinner Saloon--which was renowned for its' fine food. Following the couple's retirement in the early 1980's, the building sat deserted and unkept for several years.
Then in 1995, Ken and Kimberly Thyne purchased the building and surrounding property. After years of renovations and construction improvements, the couple opened the Ten Mile Inn for business on December 22, 2007. Four years later, a five-plex cabin unit was constructed. And in 2015, an RV Park was added to the property. Ken and Kimberly continue to host travelers, large groups and outdoor enthusiasts year round at the historic Ten Mile Inn.
