Italian Restaurants in Oakland, NJ
Italian Restaurants
In 1914, Alfredo di Lelio opened his Alfredo restaurant, and it was there in Rome that he invented what would become one of Italy’s most renowned dishes: Fettuccine Alfredo. The rest is history. Along the way, kings, heads of state and celebrities the world over beat a path to this little out of the way trattoria. Famed Hollywood stars Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks visited Alfredo’s in 1927, while on their honeymoon. The soon to become legendary dish brought them back every day for a week. Upon their departure, they presented Alfredo with a solid gold fork and spoon. Inscribed on them were the words: “To Alfredo, The King of Noodles.” The fork and spoon became the Di Lelio family’s symbol of excellence. They are proudly displayed today at Ristorante il Vero Alfredo in Piazza Augusto Imperatore, Rome, and at Alfredo Restaurants around the world, where until now, the one and only Original Fettuccine Alfredo was only available. We waited a century to bring it to your table just the way we make it in our kitchens. Enjoy!
