Birch Forest Lodge

Set on Pelican Lake in the Kabetogama State Forest, this straightforward, rustic lodge is 50 miles north of Virginia.

The 11 simple cabins have en suite bathrooms, and full kitchens with microwaves and coffeemakers. They also come with picnic tables and outdoor grills. Some have knotty pine interiors.

There's a beach with a swim raft, loaner canoes and kayaks, a playground and a fire pit. Other amenities include a boat dock with slips, and a fish-cleaning station. A lodge offers a TV and game room, and there's an on-site convenience store.
