Nikolaj Wolfson, MD, FRCSC, FACS is a board-certified, world-renowned orthopedic surgeon who is highly skilled in joint replacement surgery. At Wolfson Orthopedics in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, Dr. Wolfson puts his patients first — combining respect, understanding, and expertise — and develops highly effective, personalized treatment plans.
Dr. Wolfson earned his medical degree from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at Western University in London, Ontario, then known as the University of Western Ontario. Then, Dr. Wolfson finished a clinical and research fellowship in adult reconstruction and orthopedic trauma at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario. 
Although Dr. Wolfson has advanced training in joint replacement and orthopedic trauma surgery, he believes it’s important to explore every available nonsurgical option first. At Wolfson Orthopedics, he provides nonsurgical orthobiologic treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. When surgery is necessary, Dr. Wolfson uses minimally invasive techniques, including arthroscopy, whenever possible. 
A pioneer in his field, Dr. Wolfson was among the first orthopedic surgeons to use the direct anterior approach for hip replacement. Having performed more than 1,500 hip replacements, Dr. Wolfson is confident that this technique provides patients with a faster and less painful recovery. Dr. Wolfson is also one of the first surgeons to practice the groundbreaking limb-lengthening procedure.
Dr. Wolfson is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
