Navid M. Ziran MD

Dr. Ziran is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in orthopaedic fracture surgery, pelvic/acetabular reconstruction, and anterior approach (AA) hip replacement. He was trained by and works with Dr. Joel M. Matta, the inventor of AA total hip replacement. He serves patients at the Hip and Pelvis Institute at Saint John's Health Center (Santa Monica) and Marina Del Rey Hospital (now a Cedar-Sinai affiliate). Examples of surgeries that he performs are:

Anterior approach total hip replacement

Revision anterior approach total hip replacement

Pelvic/acetabular fracture surgery

Pelvic/acetabular deformity correction

Acute fracture surgery involving the upper extremity (clavicle, shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand) and lower extremities (hip, femur, knee, leg, ankle, foot)

Dr. Ziran completed two fellowships: 1) Orthopaedic trauma at the University of Colorado (Denver, CO) and 2) Pelvic/acetabular reconstruction and anterior approach total hip replacement (Dr. Joel M. Matta, Santa Monica, CA).

Orthopaedic trauma entails fixing patients who sustain significant orthopaedic injuries from high-speed car/motorcycle accidents, falls, gunshot wounds, etc. These patients sometimes have multiple, complex injuries of the arms/legs/pelvic/acetabulum (hip joint).

The second fellowship with Dr. Matta entailed training in more complex injuries of the pelvis/acetabulum (including chronic deformities) and anterior approach total hip replacement. After the second fellowship, Dr. Matta invited Dr. Ziran to stay and work with him at the Hip and Pelvis Institute. Dr. Ziran recently expanded to Marina Del Rey Hospital where he provides all the above services including anterior approach total hip replacement.

He believes in educating and empowering the patient so they may make their own informed decision. Surgery is not "pushed" on the patient. He believes that patients know their bodies best. Thus, it is in their best interest to understand the pros/cons of all treatment options and make their own choice. He also believes in the added value of Eastern medicine when combined with Western medical technology.

Dr. Ziran welcomes all new patients to the practice, where most major forms of medical insurance are accepted.
