Captain Kent Fey has been offshore fishing the Port Canaveral and Florida waters since 1979. He has won many tournaments and truly desires that you catch the “fish of a lifetime” when sea fishing aboard his 31 foot Contender. These specialized fishing boats are fishing competitors that are a safe, secure platform and will bring you to the game fishing grounds. It can hold up to six passengers, and children ages five and older are welcome. Captain Kent is also a professional lieutenant of fire rescue, with over 30 years of experience, and is also a licensed EMT for those with medical conditions that may be of concern.
Captain Kent specializes in slow-trolling live bait for dolphin/mahi mahi, wahoo, king mackeral, cobia, and sailfish. Other incidental catches when sports fishing are jacks, barracuda, bonita, and sharks. We also bottom-fish for amberjack, grouper and snapper. Wreck fishing is outstanding in this area due to the amount and size of these man-made, artificial reefs. There are also vast numbers of natural reef areas out of Port Canaveral that fish are drawn toward. These areas are anywhere from 60 feet deep to 270 feet deep and we catch almost all species in these areas, depending on the time of year it is. July is the month for red snapper, if the Federal Government decides to establish a season. These fish are referred to as “genuine American red snapper” and are great table fare.
Not only do we troll dead baits, but we also high-speed troll for dolphin/mahi mahi, wahoo, king mackeral, and sailfish. This is a fishery that is always best in the Spring. However, it is still productive into the summer months and increases again for the Fall run. The winter can be a good season as well, if the weather permits.
We have the best equipment and a knowledge-base that is reflected on our daily successes and in the tournament arena. Captain Kent also holds seminars and teaches while on board. There are many sites to see while fishing out of Port Canaveral. There are scheduled launches for Kennedy Space Center and Canaveral Air Force Station, submarines, porpoise, sharks, sea turtles, and the occasional whale.
