I work independent and specialise in advising my clients – overwhelming in or near retirement age – how best to secure long-term security for their funds while still generating a solid/good return. You need to remember that plenty of these clients made their portfolios and wealth through playing the investment game during the good times when domestic shares were strong and recognisable secure. Having spent four years at college when things were really bad for the economy, I’m one for security and stability as personally I think there’s another domestic/western downturn very likely before the end of the decade. I’m leaning toward gold funds and precious metals largely, even arts, wines and cars – anything irreplaceable that will retain value.
