At Cathy Matthews Homebirth Services in Sarasota, FL, Cathy Matthews was born in the Northeast and lived 5 years in Indonesia and the Netherlands while growing up. She graduated from Brown University in 1970. She became interested in Home Birth after the birth of her second child (at home) in 1976 and became a certified childbirth instructor in 1980. As she began to teach classes, she also began to be asked to attend births. This led to entering the North Florida School of Midwifery and becoming a Licensed Midwife in 1986.
