Benjamin Oakes Christy

"Growing up I never thought I’d be an accountant. My undergraduate degree is in Marketing from the University of Arkansas. After I graduated, I went into screen printing and embroidery sales. I had a lot of fun but I was an awful salesman! After several hungry nights and leftover lunches, I thought I should get a different career.

I started my MBA at the University of Dallas and discovered that I was pretty good at accounting. Since I enjoyed the topic, I took a few more classes and decided to get my masters of science in Accounting alongside the MBA. After I graduated, I got my CPA license and had an exciting career helping small to mid-sized businesses achieve an organizational platform necessary to be successful during their time of growth.

In my work with external accountants, I noticed a pretty distinct problem. There was a disconnect between the public accountant’s understanding of business and what actually went on in the business world. Sure, they all can talk-the-talk but most have only worked for public accounting firms. It was then that I realized how beneficial my non-traditional accounting path really was."
