Placement on a waiting list

If the medical team evaluates you as a suitable recipient for a transplant but you don’t have a relative or friend who can donate a kidney, your anme will be added to the transplant program’s waiting list to receive a suitable deceased donor kidney.

Waiting period

The waiting period depends on the availability of a kidney. Sometimes it may take up to three years.

If the kidney comes from a living donor, everything will be carefully planned

If you’re waiting for a deceased donor kidney, you must be ready to visit the hospital as soon as you are informed of the availability of the kidney. You have to undergo a couple of checkups. In both the cases your own kidney will still remain in its place.
