Jennifer Yaffa Feldman Speech Language Pathologist

Yaffa is a licensed speech language pathologist with a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and Certificate of Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). She earned her Masters and Bachelors degree Summa Cum Laude at Queens College City University of New York. Yaffa has experience working with children from age birth to 18 in a variety of settings including; school, home based and center based work. Currently, Yaffa works full-time at the Child School, a special education school servicing children with emotional disabilities, language learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, traumatic brain injury, expressive and receptive language delays, pragmatic disabilities, seizure disorders, apraxia, auditory processing disorders, dysfluencies and articulatory and phonological concerns. Her area of expertise lies in the arena of pragmatic language disorders, and/or using language appropriately to communicate in social situations. She has experience with the Michelle Garcia Winner’s “Social Thinking” curricula, and has run social and language groups emphasizing “theory of mind” or taking the listener’s perspective when communicating. Yaffa focuses on giving children skills and techniques such as; vocabulary enhancement, narrative development, and organization of sequential language that can be carried over into everyday situations, especially the classroom. She uses a multi-faceted approach when providing therapy combining speech, language and pragmatic skills to create a total communication approach. Additionally, she has experience with the Wilson Reading Program, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), common core standards, individualized behavior plans, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), oral motor exercises, feeding therapy, and DIR/floortime. Yaffa is a proficient Hebrew speaker who has had the great opportunity to work in multi-cultural environments taking different cultures and customs into consideration when providing therapy.
