The glossy appearance can't hide a crappy restaurant
I walk by Nijo everyday on my way to work -- it looks great from the outside -- and finally thought I'd give it a try for lunch. I even waited until past 1pm to avoid any possible lunch rush. There were probably six people in the entire restaurant when I was there. Even with such low numbers, I probably sat in my chair for a good ten or fifteen mintues before a server finally made it to me. I had a bento box with sashimi and kalbi beef. The dollop of wasabi was all dried out -- it looked like green plahdoh, actually. Not good. The maguro didn't look fresh, and the salad in my bento was absolutely drenched in dressing. The best was that I overheard the couple nearest me say while paying that they didn't want to pay for the tea they ordered because they never got it. I had just ordered tea as well (from the same server), and you would think their complaint would pretty much guarantee that my tea would actually arrive. Nope. Never got it, and I couldn't remind the server because throughout my meal she never came back to check on me -- there were no servers in the dining area, period. I guess I could've stood up and gone into the back of the restaurant to look for someone, but I can't say I wanted tea that badly. There is nothing here -- food, atmosphere, service -- that would possibly bring me back. It's worth a little bit longer walk from downtown to hike down to the ID....Not a great Lunch Spot
Waited 10 minutes to have our order taken, then waited another 40 minutes to ask how much longer it will be, to find out it had been sitting in the Kitchen we were do back to Work so asked to have it Boxed up, 10 minutes later NO Boxed Lunch. As we were sitting waiting for our Lunch we notices SIX orders sitting at the Counter and after numerous walks around the Orders FINALLY a Waitress comes and takes them to a Table. I saw one Customer come and Sit down and left after waiting 5 Miuntes to get Served. Not a recommended Place for Lunch Hours. Very Slow and dissappointing SERVICE!Best Service Good Food
Nijo has a great enviroment with welcoming wait staff, I have my favorite and you will too. The indoor decor is great for a date or a business meeting, always clean with a modern feel to the interior finishes. Outside sitting is in an alley, not the greatest setting although they have made up for it with a water feature and other planters. The sushi cuts are adequate and the chosen chef items are usually a good pick. Great cooked menu items for those not into sushi. Happy hour is awesome with great apps and drink specials and an awesome selection of sake's. Haven't been there yet? You need to check it out, great place in pioneer square/western ave area.Great Happy Hour selection!
We went for a Friday happy hour, between 4-6, and we would certainly go back.unacceptable
using one simple word: CARELESS.Best in Seattle!
I am puzzled by the bad reviews as this place has been better all the way around than any other places I've gone (Umi, Wasabi Bistro, I Love Sushi). I've never had slow service and one thing I LOVE about this place is that they ALWAYS have items that other places only get occasionally or run out of (certain types of tuna like Toro, etc). The quality is top notch! It is inexpensive compared with over-rated places like Umi (talk about BAD service), and the rolls are done RIGHT...rolled like they do in Japan...narrow and long so they are bite size and don't fall apart. I'm guessing some of the reviewers on here either work at other competing sushi places or they have never experienced REAL sushi like you get in Japan. I have many years of experience dining on sushi and this place is my favorite! BTW...if you just want to enjoy some DJ music, have a drink and maybe a roll or two, the bar is fun on weekends.Overall Great Place!
After discovering Nijo I have been ruined for other popular sushi places in Seattle. The happy hour cannot be beat, the service is quite good, and the scene is very unique. The chefs really know what they are doing and it shows with the consistent quality that they produce with each roll. I have never been one to branch out for fear of not liking what I try but every time I have done so at Nijo, I have not been disappointed.Slink into Nijo
With its side street entrance and dark decor, Nijo complements the damp Seattle weather like classic film noir.good sushi, sexy, smart decor
i have always liked this place. it is a sexy first day place. you get to talk in an intimate environment with the right music and delicious bites. And, you get to talk without interruption, because, yes, the service is pretty slow. :) I guess it depends on how you look at things, eh? You won't be sorry going here, though. I like the sushi better than Shiros, I love sushi, and many other sushi places in Seattle.Worldwide > United States > Seattle, WA > Bars
