Great Food and Service, IF you're Asian or bring one
I've heard a few stories from close(white) friends about going in and being refused a seat, even though many were available and other asian people behind my friends were seated no problem. Also I've witnessed some people being seated but not served for quite some time, until eventually they got up and left. However, when I go to this restaurant with my Korean-American girlfriend, the service and food are incredible. The Kimchee rocks, and the dinner special with the eggroll are great deals (I recommend the Kung Pow Seafood). They somehow have our food done in ten minutes, and it is delicious. We go quite frequently even though they are obviously very racsist. Bring an asian friend and enjoy!ASIANS ONLY IS GOOD FOR ME
It's about time that there is a place that is just for Asians by Asians. I mean, my god, stop complaining about being treated unfairly and of feeling unwelcomed. Get used to it. Non-whites have had to put up with it so one Asian restaurant isn't going to k ill you. Then again, it might. hahahHaven't tried it yet but....
...this last comment was one of the most asinine things I've ever heard. Do two wrongs make a right? I think not. Can't wait to try the restaurant though, I've heard nothing but good things about the food here. Hopefully we won't experience the great food a side of racism.Good Food comes with WORST SERVICE
Food, one of the best in twin cities, B+. Customer Service, can I give G? Please do not visit this place for any service. After my couple of visit, I ONLY go there for FOOD. I don't know if it is different race or anything. I notice very similar services. Only time I found their Customer Service along C grade is if you know how to speak their language. Also, I found that they are very friendly with my friends from Laos and Thailand because my friends always FLIRT with them. So overall I will write these points. Can't beat their Lunch Specials
If you want a lot of decent food for cheap, you won't find a better deal than their lunch specials. You get tea (if you eat in), soup, a large eggroll, rice, and a main dish for around 5 dollars. I don't recommend going on a Tuesday, the soup they serve on Tuesdays is terrible. Thursdays usually have good soup though.OK food, TERRIBLE service
Kids were out of school, so my wife decided it would be nice for the family to have luch together. We were seated right away...got lucky I guess...and given a bowl of soup. It got worse after that. It took the waitress about 15 to get back to us to take our order. Waited... waited... waited.. waited.. waited... after an half and hour..STILL no food. Frustrated and hungry, I stood up and kissed my family goodbye and told them I had to get back to work and if they could drop off my food on their way home. When they finally did drop off my food, the kung pao chicken lunch special I ordered was very blah...Basically, it was just sweet and sour sauce which they added hot pepper to.no whites allowed?
So I've been to this place a couple times now and the food is decent; however, every single time I go they try to make me upgrade my meal to a larger portion. Dear lord how much do they think a 150 pound man can eat? The first time this happened I did order the larger version and to be honest it had to be the same size. On top of that everything people say about the service is true, they serve family and friends first.Great if you really want some authentic asian food.
The food is the best Chinese food I've ever had at a restaurant in the Twin Cities. It is catered to asian tastes--you will not be tasting the sweet-n-sour you get from other reataturants (i.e. Pei Wei). Every dish has its own taste, you can share plates and everything will not end up tasting the same (i.e. The Village Wok). If you are used to and prefer the asian tastes (or simply every dish covered in grease) from big chain places, then you might think their food is bad. There are so many asian diners because HKN serves real asian food. The service is not terrific, but not at all bad--they take your order, bring you your order, give you the check, the end (it's not what many Americans are used to, but I think it unfair to say it is terrible). It's not a discrimination thing, I'd say a language barrier and partly cultural. I'm asian and I don't care for outstanding service (i.e. do you enjoy the food?/can I get you something? every 5 minutes), as long as it is not bad; good service is timely service with refills on drinks when you need it. The place is small (smaller than a regular fast-food dining area) and could probably get more service if it expanded, but it also creates an atmosphere regulars like.great food, poor service.
In terms of food, they fare OK. Prices of foods there are expensive (shrimp fried rice costs 14 bucks) and their service is terrible. Once I forgot to leave a few bucks on the table when an old chinese waitress came to me (who never smiles unless if you're born with "slanted eyes") shouting with her index finger pointing at me saying "Hey, no tips a?" I felt humiliated as everybody in the restaurant had their eyes on me. I have ever since never stepped back into the restaurant ever again. Now I heard they charge tips on customers' bills. So think twice before going there. Dont expect to get great service if your eyes are not slanted. You can try slanting your eyes to get great service from them but it doesnt help if youre brown/black (like me)This is the place you must go if you like authentic Cantonese dishes!!
This place is definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in the twincities, if it is not the best yet. It offers authentic Cantonese dishes that you will not find in most other Chinese restaurants in the twin cities. For those who craving American style Chinese dishes, HKN might not be the place to go. However, I will not be surprised that you might discover some new dishes you like if you are open mind. It has become my favour Chinese restaurant in the twincities. Of course I am Chinese.Great Chou Fun and Singaporean Rice noodles(vermicelli)
It makes me feel sad to read the negative comments about this restaurant as I had been lucky enough to have great experiences with HK Noodles. It is one of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities. Having lived in HK for 7 years, I find their food to be the best cure for my hankering for Cantonese dishes. Their chou fun and Singaporean rice noodles (vermicelli) are THE BEST! They accommodate to my vegetarian request by substituting beef with tofu upon request, which I truly appreciate.Good food: Don't go if you are not Asian
I am a student at the UofM and an afficionado of Asian food. I tried to eat there a few times and ended up leaving after waiting for over a half hour for a seat. They sat multiple Asians before me and my friend, and there was no sign of us ever being seated. Both times we ended up going to Village Wok. Finally we went on a Tuesday night around 11 and the place was empty. We were seated and served: however, after we got our meal we could not get any service. They would not get us water and I couldn't even track them down. The food was some of the best Asian food I have had on campus and the prices were decent with the dinner specials. I liked food enough to go back when it is slow. Oh well, even if the Asians don't like Americans or college students the food is still good.Pick Up ONLY
I agree with most of what people have already been saying. The food is great and decently priced. HOWEVER, the service is some of the worst I have ever experienced. The staff disappears after the food is dropped off. My boyfriend and I really like their mango smoothies but they never get them to us before we're asking for the check. Either dine in and don't expect any extras with your meal (aka: refill on water, any beverages, dessert, attention from waitress, etc.) or order to go like we've started doing and enjoy your meal the same without the hassel of trying to figure out if the waitress should even be tipped. The key with this place is to order TO GO! In, out, and enjoying the food without the miserable service.Visiting veteran restaurant owners from East Coast / Hong Kong ate here and were absolutely delighted.
Don't let the tacky pink awning at the entrance or the unassuming location in Stadium Village fool you. Or the disgustingly grimy, well-used laminated menus (just wash your hands after ordering). Hong Kong Noodles has marvelous, authentic, Cantonese-style Chinese dishes crafted from quality ingredients and dished out in generous portions. We're originally from Hong Kong, have been in the Chinese restaurant business for 30 years, and eaten all over from NYC, Frisco, DC, HK, mainland China. Three of us came, saw, and ate for $40 total. The sauteed spinach with garlic was fresh, juicy, and tender with the right amount of garlicky heat...and enough on the plate for probably 4 people. The seafood with chive stalks and bean sprouts was overflowing with yummy fish, large shrimp, creamy scallops and tender squid, balanced by the fresh crispness of the vegetables...enough for 3 people on one plate. The roast duck in our wonton soup was sinfully rich and meaty with the right amount of sweetness and salt. The beef brisket and tendons in our wonton soup were equally delicious and cooked to perfection with beefy goodness. The wonton soup THIN noodles were tasty with good bite. However, the thicker FUN noodles seemed a little dry and texture was off. Also, the pork/shrimp wontons in our soup seemed on the medium-rare side, so we considered asking to have them cooked a little longer...but were enjoying our main dishes so much we forgot about eating them.enough about the "racism"
We go regularly and we are white and they are incredibly kind to us, they give my kids free drinks and when they have time they talk to me.horrible place for services
i was there for lunch with my co workers and we ask for some water, the waitress came around said some in her language poured our cup and left our table angry. my recomdation to the manager or owner invest on your services and send your employees to Fogo dechao tol earn manner and services from them.Horrible Service!
I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!Tasty variety but service indifferent
Hong Kong Noodle definitely focuses on the food. They have a large menu of authentic-sounding dishes. I've been there a number of times and haven't had anything I disliked. Like Hong Kong itself, they serve dishes in a variety of styles from around Asia, from Korean to Chinese to Thai. I can recommend the Thai Style Seafood Soup and most of the lunch specials.Best Noodle Dishes I've ever had!
I love Hing Kong Noodles! I have always had food that was hot and delicious!WORST SERVICE EVER!
If you are only looking for food, then maybe go to hong kong noodles. There are way better places in the twin cities to go for authentic asian food. Check out the restaurants on university.Worldwide > United States > Minneapolis, MN > Chinese Restaurants
