They specialize in Asian hair, which apparently has a different texture than other hair, but Kenny does a fabulous job with my super-fine Caucasian hair, too. The woman that does the wash is amazing. I wish I could bring her home with me to scrub my head like that every day. It's like a full body massage - so relaxing! Super easy to get to (Kenmore), and I have never had trouble getting an appointment within a day or two of calling, and very often get in the same day as I decide I need a cut! The best part? My haircut is $40.Waste of time and money
this hair salon is by far, the most awful i've ever been to!!!!! it was a violation to have my hair treated there. not only was the staff rude to me, they completely botched my haircut. the stylists there are not proficient in english, thus there was no way to inform them of the hair style that i wanted. instead, they put their own punk-grunge-japanese twist to it, and i ended up coming out a poodle!!!!! and they charged me $150 for the whole thing. i honestly wanted to walk out without paying, i felt so awful about the result!WOW
I called on a day when zen was closed. He opened up and cut my hair for me! It was 25 dollars. He only used a razor. It was AWSOME. I love zen hair and will never go anywhere else. It's affordable, and the attention to detail is so satisfying! An art form
Freddy is amazing! He is so skilled and detail oriented. He will not allow a hair to be missed. He is affordable and really great.Great hair cut at a great price!
Freddy is wonderful! I used to work in a salon for a long time and I can't say I've ever seen a stylist who takes as much care as Freddy does. He pays great attention to what you want and is also realistic about your at-home styling needs. He is very good at taking a standard-type cut and giving it a funkier edge if that's what you like. I've also been very impressed with the color as well. The best part is that it's such a bargin! Zen is the best-kept secret in Boston, if you ask me.Cheap for a reason
I had my haircut done here recently after reading several positive reviews about Fred. What to say of the experience? Fred was definitely very skilled and detail oriented. He understood each person's hair type, and what style would fit them best. The staff is pleasant and friendly.Owner is nice but his technique isn't that great
I tried to communicate to him what I really wanted, which was longer layers and not so much shredding (the last person who cut my hair thinned it out way too much). I think he overbooked people and therefore was rushing through my haircut. For $40 I got a haircut that I basically could've done at home myself. He did not use a razor, my hair was cut too blunt and did not blend in. When I came home and used a straightener I found that there were some parts that were longer than the rest...so it was really uneven. He is a really nice guy and very friendly but I think he pretty much cut my hair like a white person would...which is to say he really doesn't know how to cut asian hair. I would not recommend this salon at the price that they charge.A good place to cut hair for the Asians
As I was so disappointed with my first experience with a high-end Back Bay hair dresser, I did not have too much hope but wanted to do something about my hair. I've read several reviews about Zen hair about the Asian hair and decided I was going to try out.Worldwide > United States > Boston, MA > Hair Salons
