Excellent Programs

I attended Montclair State University to earn my teaching certification, as well as my Masters in Writing. Overall, my impression of the state school is that it has many programs to offer--especially a strong arts and teaching program--and the instructors are top-notch. I learned a great deal by having classes with some very intelligent, skilled professors.

The campus is well-manicured. There is a student center building with cafeterias, a school store, and campus information. Montclair State is renown for its Education programs, and its Institute for the Humanities annually hosts academic workshops and programs in the student center for those professionals interested.

Primarily, Montclair State University is a suitcase school which means most of its students commute to its location. There is a train station directly across the street, as well as bus service to the campus.

When I last visited, they were building a large parking garage to combat the horrific parking the campus had

Overall a good experience

I am a student in my senior year at Montclair State, and overall it's been a good experience. They have a lot of majors and minors to choose from, and most of the academic departments are great. There are also a lot of extra activities and student organizations to get involved in. There are some problems, especially campus parking, which is usually a mess. Also the food on campus could be better and cheaper, and there could be more things to do on weekends. Other than that, Montclair State is a good university especially considering the cost of tuition as compared to other universities and colleges in this area.

If they would only fix their billing system

As a parent I am thrilled that my child is getting a great education at this school. I was impressed by the fact that no matter who i talked to to a letter they were pleased with this school. If they would simply get the mess at their bursars office straightened out then it would be a great place for sure. The bills are never right, phone support is abyssmal and the only way to accomplish anything with them is to go over their heads to the university president.

Great Education!!

I graduated Montclair State in May of 2000 with a Computer Science Degree. Overall, MSU is a wonderful college to attend. What I liked most about this college, is the teachers know you by you name, unlike some universities where you are only a number to them. And if I was having trouble in a certain class, the teachers were available to help during their office hours.

As for the campus activities, they had so many organizations to be a part of. Unfortunately I was unable to join any since I was working full time and going to school full time.
