Let me be clear this is NOT a review of the care they provide for the children. I have no idea the quality of care they provide for the kids. This is a review of the manager. I called asking if they had any part time positions available. The manager asked me to come in for an interview as soon as possible. I work 8:30 to 5:30 daily, so I took the time to get up at 5:30am and get ready and go in early as possible, around 7:15am to meet with her. I filled out my application and did the interview. She basically told me she wanted to hire me. Said she thought I was wonderful and that she was going to make up my schedule and call me back. Her exact words were, "Frankly I think you would be fantastic here. Let me make up a schedule for you." She promised to call me by Monday at the latest. Monday came, no call. So I called. Again, she made up an excuse and said she'd call me Tuesday afternoon. No call. Wednesday no call. Finally I called again Thursday and she finally fessed up that she wasn't going to hire me because she didn't have the hours I was looking for. So instead of being upfront with me telling me Monday that she changed her mind she instead wasted my time. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is important for managers to display a professional attitude and treat people with respect. If you aren't interested in hiring someone, you need to be upfront and not drag it on and on and promise to call back when you have zero intention of calling back. As someone who has worked in multiple daycares, I will tell you there is an almost routine disregard for the feelings and well being of the worker. The workers are treated as replaceable and of no value, and that is why the turnover rate is so high at centers. Parents should consider this in their search for a daycare. You want a center that pays their employees well, treats them with respect, and values what they bring to the table. If the manager has this much blatant disregard for someone interested in employment, how would she treat the employees? She was flaky, unprofessional, and untruthful. It's a shame, because the Goddard school as an establishment has admirable philosophies, and I believe it's (in general) a place that treats children in a loving, warm, caring way, and helps develop emotionally healthy children. Apparently, though, they do not extend that treatment to potential hiring candidates. I would discourage anyone planning on applying here from doing so. Look elsewhere. Future advice to the manager: you are a manager, act like it. Do not waste someones time like that. Time is valuable, time is money. Take the hiring process seriously, these are people you trust to care for the children. Most importantly, if you say you are going to call, CALL. All it takes is one phone call, 20 seconds of your time, to say "I wanted to call and let you know that unfortunately we have no spot available, but thank you for your time". Do not say "I'll call you tomorrow, I'll call you tomorrow" and just hope they get the hint. In my entire career, every job but one (excluding this one) that I have applied for I received, but that one that I didn't get the person was professional and courteous and explained that they appreciated me taking the time to apply, but they had gone with another candidate. Take this example, and utilize it in your future. Human beings, all of them, deserve respect. You wouldn't appreciate someone wasting your time, so don't waste theirs. Oh, and you know who I am, throw my application in the trash (if you haven't already). I lost interest in working for you.
