Rare gem that is - the WORST place, food and service
We accidentally ended up at this place driving by and starving. Definitely it was going to be our first and last time. There was NO SERVICE (saw our waiter twice during our 1-hour visit - to take our order and to bring our check). Chicken and broccoli we ordered (you'd think you can't mess this up) - well, the chicken was made at least couple of days ago - dry to the point that none of us (party of 4) were able to chew it... I could go on and on, but see no point wasting readers' time. My advise AVOID this place.

Inedible Food!
I must say, I am not one that ever feels compelled to give a bad review of a restaurant, but I just had to warn people about this place so that they don't waste their money.
I have given this place a couple of tries, and each time I am completely grossed out by the poor quality of the food. Never again! I gave them the benefit of the doubt and caved in and ordered a vegetable fried rice and crab rangoon. The rice tasted like it was burnt and the crab rangoon was practically all fried dough with little to no filling. The smell of the fried dough made me feel sick to my stomach.
I honestly could not even take another bite and threw it out. What at waste of $15. I think if a really great Chinese food restaurant opened in Newton Centre, they would do really well b/c we are lacking one.
PS-In order to publish this, I had to give it a rating, if I could I would give it no stars.

One of the most under-rated restaurants in Boston
South Pacific is a true gem. While it is true that this restaurant does not win accolades on its decor, the food here is unbelievable. I grew up in the Newton/Needham area (now live in Long Island)...on all of my family weekend visits up to Boston each year, I go to South Pacific at least once a visit.
Once you get past the limited aestetics, you will be amazed at the consistency of the food. Some all time favorites you don't want to miss include Shrimp with Lobster Sauce (Best in Boston), Chicken Wings, "Pork Chop" Spare Ribs, and Chicken Balai Hai.

Alcoholic drinks not the greatest
The Chinese bartenders pretend to make alcoholic drinks, but use alot of sugar and artificial ingredients to make it seem like a good drink.
Not a recommended place.
The people who go there are very friendly.
