YUMMYLICIOUS!!!!!!
Our search for great Japanese food landed us in Independence. We went there tonight, after getting a high recommendation from a coworker. We made the 20 min. drive and we're so glad we did it. The food was great and you're pretty much guaranteed, my opinion, that you will have left overs. The service was outstanding. Our server checked on us occassionally and took great care of details. Our chef was entertaining to watch. This was our first time there but definitely NOT our last. Our 3 kiddos (8,5,2 years old) loved the fountain and would QUIETLY sit and watch the fish. We had a clear view of them from where we were seated. Definitely a family friendly environment!!!!

Great sushi!
As a big fan of sushi, I must say that I was impressed by Samurai chef's sushi, not to mention the wonderful atmosphere and excellent service! I went there one day for lunch with a group of friends and ordered the playboy roll and the eel roll. When the food came out, I was amazed at the display of the dish-very neat and artistically placed on a wooden plate. I was more than satisfied by the end of meal. Samurai Chef will definitely be seeing me and my friends again.

Great everything!!
If you are looking for a great place to eat then you've found the spot! So good! The owners are friendly and welcoming as well as the staff! That's not even the best part! I have been to many Japanese steak houses in the midwest and this is definitely one of the best! The food quality is beyond compare. It's hard to find fresh tasting sushi but this place has it. There was only one downside and that was the end of the meal! Everything was great about this place! I can't wait to go back.

A Big NO NO
We went there cause we saw 4-5stars review, we thought it would be good, but everything was so disappointed. We ordered sushi and beer, the beer was warm, the sushi was ok, the server was terrible, left us alone after serving the food, no checking back to see if we want anything else, we got a little bit of Wasabi for a lot more amount of sushi, no soy sauce next to where we sat, I have to go grab it somewhere else. The owners didn't look like they appreciated our business. I give this Nagative10.

Excellent meal
If you want to take the family out to a good and enjoyable meal I highly recommend the Samuari Chef Steak House. The food has always been delicious and the show is always fun to watch. We have been going there for years now and still get a kick out of watching our dinner be cooked right in front of us. Toddlers love to see the flaming volcano and watch as their food is sliced and diced right in front of them. The staff is always friendly and happy to see you. If you want to take your date out for dinner and fun, this is a good way to start off.

Worst Japanese Steak House EVER!!!
Decor was Montana hunting lodge meets red Japanese lanterns with Chinese lucky cat sitting on top of loud, cheesy plastic fountain. My NY strip was tough, the soup was soulless, flavorless tea, the salad DROWNED in bottled dressing. Had to ASK for chopsticks! Cheap silver ware. Wait staff was undertrained. Out of Kirin beer. The chef was robotic and Mexican and spilled my vegetables in my lap. The manager would not remove the unedible steak from my bill after I choked down 3 bites because, apparently, if I wanted something EDIBLE I should've known better and coughed up $22.00 for filet mignon... Oh...my bad I guess. No apologies and only wanted to argue with me.
Bottom line: If you want great...go to Gojo's, if you want above average got to Kobes, if you want average go to Mr. Sushi....but..if what you really, REALLY need is a sloppy plate of unpalatable crap served in a culturally confusing atmosphere topped off with a pointless and frustrating fight with a classless moron all for the average price of $40 per couple plus drinks take that crazy chick that's been stalking you who won't take NO for an answer to Samurai Chef and tell her she can look forward to this place every week. Problem solved. Hurry though, cuz they won't survive much longer.

Good fried rice
When I was pregnant, I'd always have my husband get me chicken fried rice to go! It's so yummy. The hibachi grill is okay. The sushi is okay as well-- nothing to write home about, but not disgusting either.

Amazing Asian Cuisine
This fabulous restaurant is a favorite for all my friends and family. It's hard for me to even begin explaining how great this restaurant is. I dine there at Least three times a month. First off, it is a great place to hold a party. It's very fun to watch the chefs cook and put on a show for you. If you have certain requests to how you would like your food cooked they certainly will try to meet your request. My kids love the pond in the middle of the restaurant, and on many occassions, the host will give them fish pellots to feed the koi and watch them swim up to eat. It's a very nice environment and the service there is very friendly. When I'm not there for the hibachi tables, I am definitely in the sushi bar. The sushi chef is very friendly and his sushi is great! I've been to many sushi bars all over Kansas City and although this one is not as packed as the others on weekends, I've never had sushi so good. I also love that its so inexpensive that it doesn't empty out my wallet when I want to go with my friends one day and with my family of 5 the next. The only thing that bothers me is that more people aren't eating there. Not a lot of people know about it yet and it isn't in the most convienent location for most people but it's definitely worth driving out the extra few minutes. People also see these types of restaurants as holiday or special occassion types of restaurants but it is the same price as the regular choice of restaurants like Applebees but with bigger portions of food, that's for sure!. So tell your friends and family about this wonderful restaurant and spread the word! We can't keep a restaurant as outstanding as this a secret.

their $1 sushi might be a good deal
The service was good and the sushi chef was nice but the rest was only so-so! The rice was over cooked and mushy and the portions of fish were the smallest I've ever experienced. I noticed a $1 sushi sign mon-thur 4-6 and if I'm ever in the area again during happy hour, I might give it another shot but probably not. I did not try the steak house side but everyone sounded like they were having a good time. and it smelled wonderful.

Good stir-fry, sushi, a little slow on sushi
Everything I've had from Samurai Chef Steak & Sushi has been good. I like the hot green tea and the mugs are very nice. The chefs are better at cooking than they are tricks. I've seen them drop things several times, but it's still fun. The seating is around a grill with other people besides just your party, so that is a plus or minus depending on who you are. The sushi is good, but for some reason, last time it took longer to get the Sushi than to cook the stir-fry. The prices aren't too bad, a little high for lunch, though.
