Couldn't Be Better

Husband, daughter, grandson and myself ate at Nick's. I and my daughter had the chicken marsala--absolutely awesome--fresh mushrooms, rice pilaf. Husband had mess of perch--lightly breaded, full of flavor--with baked potato. Baked potato was very fresh. Grandson had top sirloin--very good. Daughter also had french onion soup which was perfect--not too salty. Salads were good. Service great--fast and friendly. Since this was our first time there, we all pretty much sampled each other's food. We all were in agreement that this was a place to return to. By the way, I am very finicky and critical of my food. I had no complaints. The only con was the staff seemed in a hurry to take dishes away. Next time I will be more assertive if I'm not sure I want the dish taken away.

Great steak

Steak was great and full of flavor didn't need any A1 sauce!!!!!,They must marinate the steaks overnight every bite was full of flavor.Portions are too small and prices are too high for what you receive on your plate.
The booths are high that make for a cozy, private environment also very clean restaurant.

Wonderful!

Nick's is our favorite. My husband and two brothers LOVE the prime rib and steaks. I adore their walnut-crusted salmon - fresh and tasty. Nick's portions are generous, with good sides. Fresh broccoli, great potato choices (try the redskins), and the whole grain loaf of bread is to die for, especially with the whpped cherry butter. Prices are fair, and several weeknights Nick's offers all-you-can-eat entrees; Thursday night is prime rib. the guys swear it is the best they've ever eaten, and knowing these men, they've eaten a ton of beef in their lives. The servers are pleasant and attentive. They do a pretty good lake perch, too. Nick himself is usually in the restaurant evenings, and he makes sure everything is to the client's liking. All in all, dining at Nick's is a very pleasurable experience. Oops, I almost forgot about the mushroom wild rice soup - swoon!

Eat Like a KING!!!!!!!!! (Or Queen)

WOW I mean WOW!!!! I ate at Nick's for the first time over the weekend, and it was really great. Now I love eating out, and do so two to three times a week, and I go everywhere. Now I went to Nick's with my girlfriend, she has been going there with her family for years and took me there knowing I'm a steak lover.

Now lets talk about STEAKS!!!! They have Certified Black Angus Beef, and they cut all their own steaks there. They have any cut you could ask for, the best filets, t-bones, new yorks, top sirloins, the list goes on and on. I had the Ribeye, mmmmmmmmmmm it was perfect 14oz. of pure heaven.

Now they have many other items, they have seafood, pastas, chicken dishes, salads, etc. My girlfriend had the Woodroasted smoked salmon salad. Now talk about salad, the portion was huge and the salmon was delicious. They smoke the salmon themselves over a mix of woodchips.

Now as for price, I give them a perfect score. They are a steakhouse and their prices are the same as near by steakhouses. I always laugh when people say that one place has a high price. I always say "have you seen the price of the others?"

Also everything comes with a choice of potato, rice, or broccalli, and soup or salad to start with. I say get the caeser salad to start you wont be sorry. Also check out the apps. list get a flaming cheese, oysters, seafood stuffed mushroom caps, etc.

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG EATING AT NICK'S!!!

Thank You Bill

I was trying to plan a birthday party for my husband when we came to the Detroit area from Houston. When my other plan fell through I called Nick's. I had a group of 27 people and need a place the next day. Bill was great when I called we set up a special menu and he set aside the back room for my party. Everyone at the restaurant was very helpful and friendly. The food is wonderful.

Reminds me of standing in line at the Secretary of State. Can you say "OVERRATED"?

Wait . . . . wait . . . . just wait please . . . that's what you'll be doing at NIck's. And the cocky, unsympathetic manager will console you by telling you that is quite acceptable and normal there. He even gave us a lame excuse, "well, we take longer because you've probably noticed we make everything from scratch", HMMMM, we were waiting for STEAKS and HAMBURGERS, I didn't realize they were made from "SCRATCH", I just usually grill them for 4 mins a side and flip. He tried to make us feel we were unreasonable for expecting better than waiting for an hour for our entree. (They weren't that busy).

I can't fathom how they didn't have time to drain the jug of water from the puny, boring, lettuce only salad they give you. My meteorite of a baked potato looked like it had lost a couple heat shields on re-entry. The food was mediocre considering the fairly high prices. MULTIPLE errors by the waitress, including mistakes on the bill (wrong on the high side of course!) Steaks were overdone, GEEZ, HOW DID THIS PLACE GET ITS RATING UP TO NOW! I don't think today's younger diner has experience a true "good service" restaurant like it used to be downtown, where your steak is pierced, not your server. I'd would have liked to try the pizza based on the reviews, but I'm worried they have to make the pepperoni from scratch! This place was flat out awful.

We'll be back!

This is the first time I've ever written a review for a restaurant but I felt compelled to do so after reading the not so positive review from the last patron. My husband and I went to Nick's for his birthday dinner after hearing from my mother-in-law that it used to be wonderful. Well, it STILL IS!!
The first nice surprise was the ambience. Rustic and comfortable with friendly wait staff and tv's within view. The next thing that impressed me was the variety of the menu (along with the reasonable prices!) and fresh bread with yummy cherry butter. When we got the food, the portions were large and the food was excellent! Other than the appetizer (stuffed mushrooms) which was nothing to cheer about - good, but not excellent - everything else was outstanding. From the french onion soup to the fresh salad, from prime rib to my chicken oscar all the way to the cold draught beer and excellent dessert... WAY above average in terms of food quality, portion and price (especially in this day and age of inconsistent and overpriced restaurants). Thanks, Nicks! We'll definitely be back! And next time, we'll bring more people with us!

BAD SHRIMP

I received a gift card to Nick's for Christmas 2008. I live in Shelby Twp. Nick's 22nd street is 22 and VanDyke.
Was a horrible snow storm outside (Jan 10-2009 and decided to use the card. Restaurant close to home. We ordered our dinner choice with soup which was wild mushroom. It was very good soup. The dinner on the other hand was terrible! I had ordered jumbo fried shrimp. The shrimp were the worst I have ever had! They were ubviously frozen with horrible batter and under cooked. I tried to get the attention of my waitress but everyone in the restaurant, including the manager, was very busy rearranging tables to accomodate the D.J. for karokee. Yes I said karokee. High class joint!
Finally got the waitress and reported my dissatification with my meal. She appoligized took it away and brought back the bill omiting the shrimp dinner but charged me for the soup and baked potato that I ordered with the meal. The manager never approached us to find out what was the problem with the food being served at his restaurant (under cooked seafood should be a concern) No one in the restaurant had the least bit of concern for customer satifaction or customer safety issues due to uncooked food.
Especially seafood!, only karokee. If that were my restaurant, I would have instructed any wait staff to immediatly report any problem with food (or any problem for tht matter) to me for health reasons to be sure, but also to keep people coming back and to spread the word.
In these rough financial times the best free advertizing is word of mouth and my mouth is glued shut!!!!
I will not recommend Nick's to anyone. If there were the slightest bit of interest shown from the manager regarding our problem maybe different story but there was not any,,,.
So,, By By Nick's. Won't be coming back or ever recommending your restaurant to anyone.
Anyway I hate karokee!

best filet you will ever have !!!

I go to 22nd street steakhouse at least twice a week, I was turned on to the place by some friends a couple of years ago for a rehersal dinner in there back banquet room. The food was excellent. I had a 9oz filet & you could practically cut it with a fork. They have an incredible wine selection and a really nice variety on there menu from fresh seafood to chicken dishes to awesome porkchops, very thick and moist not dried out like most places I've had them. If your in the mood for a sandwich, you have to try their corn beef, it's awesome. I've seen some reviews saying Nicks is a little overpriced, but I'm not sure what they are comparing it to. If they're comparing it to fastfood or pub food, yes, but for a steakhouse it is comparable to all the chain steakhouses & the quality is much better. They also have a nice 1 man band in the bar area on weekends (not to loud) and very cheap drink specials. Best steakhouse this side of texas !!!

You'd think they'd try harder

The server brought a slab of prime rib instead of the ribeye steak I had ordered; no apology. When I stepped away, she informed the party I was with that I had said prime rib, because the size I asked for also was a prime rib size.
She brought my ribeye once everyone else was finished eating. It looked like she was going to put it on the table (it was a HUGE heavy plate) but she quickly handed it to me instead. I was not expecting it; the juice on the plate (the re was a lot of it) splashed in big splatters on my right thigh and down my right arm.
No apology.
I waited a few minutes but was still ticked, so I got up and went to the manager. After I told him what happened, he had an automated "sorry" and offered to dry clean my clothes. I stated that it was jeans and I'll throw them in the washer but he repeated what he said. I stated again that would not be necessary, a third time he repeats it and I stated "I just thought as the manager you should know what's going on". He them offered a dessert and I declined, asked for a box and we left. The steak was tough and untrimmed (when I tried to eat at home).
Don't waste your money.
