Beautiful upscale trendy and yet NOT Manhattan pretentious!!

My boyfriend and I have been here several times alone and with friends and we consider it to be our perfect NY dining out experience. Creative cocktails, tasty dishes, great atmosphere...can't say enough...highly recommended...

Very average food for too high prices.

Very disappointing. I went for Restaurant Week with my girlfriend and our meal wasn't great. The food is dull and uninspired; it tastes and is presented like your average corner place, but is far more expensive. I won't be back, though the ambience and service are pleasant.

Not My Grandma's Pho

I love this place...I have consistently frequented the upstairs lounge for at least 6 years and have never been disappointed. Though I swear by my mother's fish sauce, and the pho at Nha Trang (Chinatown on Baxter) is a bit better at 1/3 of the price...I do think it's worth it (sometimes) to enjoy Vietnamese in "luxury". The decor is perfectly authentic..down to the bathroom tile. This place makes me feel like Im walking into my grandmother's ancient colonial house in Hue...and the food...well, I dare say is rather authentically upper-class Vietnamese. Most people have never really had the pleasure to truly taste the broad spectrum of Vietnamese cuisine...this place actually serves authentic upper-class home cooking...which is to say that it's very different from the usual chinatown selections of Pho and spring-rolls (god forbid should anyone make a comparison to the Chinese-imitation so named Saigon Grill).

Try the BO BIA instead of Goi Cuon (AKA spring rolls...I dont understand the fascination with these rolls...Ive never been to a restaurant that have ever prepared the Goi Cuon correctly. For the same price, another good option is the Cha Gio). BANH XEO is delish...it's a vietnamese crepe and is wonderful rolled in romaine lettuce leaves dipped in FS (ask this to be made extra crispy) . You cant go wrong with any of the fish dishes (unless you really dont like spices and flavor).

Dont bother with:
-Sup Mang Cua: a dessert bowl worth of starch and canned asparagus; Rather ordinary & not a great start at $7.50.
-Com chien Hue: broccoli and carrots arent even available in Hue! This dish is totally FOB vietnamese (frozen veggies thrown together with day-old rice...which btw is how authentic Com chien is mostly prepared...Viet version of casserole)
-MI XAO DON CHAY: the egg noodle soaks up too much oil...and the veggies and sauce that accompany are not well flavored.

Except for a few dishes noted, this is on my short list of NY favorites.

Unfortunate Decline

The food was terrible, relatively expensive (spent 200 for 3), and the service slow. I dont know if its the economy or a change in management and the chef but you want to take your money somewhere else.

I hope they are able to turn it around as it a nice lounge.

Was a waste of my money

We were looking for a restaurant near the 59E59 Theatre before our show. I love Vietnamese food so chose this when given the nearby options. By chance it was also Restaurant Week. The RW menu of appetizer, main course and a mixed sorbet dessert was $35. Ordering an app and main course w/no dessert from the regular menu was basically the same price. Hmmm, I thought.
Oh, well. I opted for RW menu. I got the Crispy Duck Rolls with taro, jicama, mint and a nuoc cham dip as the appetizer. My main course was Pan Seared Wild Salmon with ginger crust, leeks and bell peppers, basil lemongrass "sauce.”

I put the word sauce in quotes because I consider a sauce a dressing that has some liquid consistency. What I got was a mix of oily vegetables scattered around the salmon. The salmon had NO TASTE. I mean really I just paid over $24 dollars for a blacken piece of fish that I could have torched at home for less money and WAY MORE flavor.
I didn't mind that it was crusty; I was looking forward to that. But all I tasted was plain salmon covered in char. I asked for some kind, any kind of sauce to help give flavor. Even adding that didn't help.

The duck rolls were greasy and not impressive.
I would have given this review 1 star but I tasted one dinner companion's Grilled Scallops on egg noodles & rice noodles, gourmet greens, basil cilantro peanuts, chili lime sauce. It was tasty and tangy. Good summer meal (not on the RW menu)
My other friend seem pleased with her RW choice; Trio of Cha Gio, Grilled Prawns & Pork Loin Slice over rice vermicelli & mixed green salad, mint, peanuts & nuoc cham sauce. But as she says about herself she will eat anything.
Also I had a sip of both of their cocktails. Very tasty, especially the Ginger Mojito.

One last nit picky thing - When asked if we wanted coffee or tea I asked what herbal teas they had. I realized the waiter didn't know the difference between caffeinated/Black teas and herbal tea. So the mint tea I asked for was of course not herbal.

Over all the experience was a waste of my money

Cold Food, Bad Service... for $140

Want to read a horror story...
1)The waiter never asked us if we wanted a drink
2) The appetizer came out cold
3) The wine was bad and was removed
4) The table next to us was given their main course before the appetizer
5) My meat dish came out cold, not warm, cold
6) The bill came to $140
Want my advice: stay as far away as possible from

Very Disappointing

We had gone to Le Colonial in San Francisco and enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. The New York location sounded perfect for my birthday celebration but I am sorry to say that the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered the duck which was dry and tasteless. The mango sundae was the best part of the meal. Would definitely not go back.
