DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!

In my opinion there are many other daycares in Pittsburgh that are better and safer for your child. Interpaly is very poorly run, issues with children and teachers are dealt with very unprofessionally. The turnover for the staff is very high which I think reflects on its owner/manager - but I may be wrong. They are very frequently understaffed (or poorly staffed). Children in the infant room are often left in the cribs or swing crying for long peroids of time. I feel that many of the caregivers handle the children a little too roughly and I did not feel like it is a caring enviroment at all. The outside play area is lousy.

Love It.

I could not be more pleased with the two years I've been going to Interplay. My child loves her teachers and looks forward to her "day care days" with enthusiasm. I have been very pleased with the way the staff keeps parents informed. I enjoy the monthly newsletter put together by the director and the daily reports completed by the teachers, as well as the annual community events organized by the staff and parents. During her time at Interplay, my child has learned to play well with others, and her teachers constantly challenge her with age appropriate development activities. I would absolutely recommend this day care center to others!

A round of applause!

I appreciate this center for recognizing that each child's needs are different and embracing/encouraging outside support for special needs. I love that there is ethnic, religious, and physical diversity among children and staff. Over her 3 years this director has hired staff with high credentials who work to nurture and develop each child. This non-profit center makes a conscious effort to communicate with parents and maintain or exceed accreditation standards. My children frequently visit the local parks and playgrounds, rounding out their day and expanding their horizons!

INTERPLAY SUCKS!!!!!!

Interplay is a child care center that does teach the children their introductory skills very well but be cautious, the wrong people are in charge. Some children's welfare are more important than others...don't find out the hard way!
Management is under experienced and could careless about the other children that are not their favorites. Glad to get out of there when we did!!!!

We love Interplay!

My son has gone to Interplay for 3 years and we are very happy there. No place is perfect, but here are the Pro/Cons, as I see them:

Pros: The staff is caring and have a consistent discipline style that works well for us. The Center takes all children, regardless of mental or physical disabilities, which exposes kids to a wide variety of abilities and situations, which is a big plus in my book, but can also be a challenge. Many of the staff that were there when my son was a baby are still there. Daycare centers don't pay very well (no matter where you are) and turnover is expected. Many of the teachers have left to either start, or because they have finished, graduate degrees. While it is sad when teachers leave, they do a great job handling the transitions. The cadre of children is also fairly stable, and my son has gone to school with a lot of the same kids since he was really little. When he was an infant they were very flexible about cloth diapers and breastmilk. The Jumpstart program (for Preschoolers) is fantastic, and I think is doing a great job of preparing them academically while still encouraging fun.

Cons: As one other reviewer noted, the outside play area is terrible. To compensate, they take the kids for walks or to a playground every day the weather allows, but there is really no getting around the fact that there is no place outside for the kids to play. Because the Center accepts children of all abilities, there are times when a special needs child can cause problems for the other children, and often requires more care than is easily available. I think the Center has done a good job (albeit too slowly) of trying to put procedures in place to honor the mission of the Center to serve all children while not compromising the care of other kids. This came much too slowly over the last year or so, but I believe that there are better procedures in place now to deal with it.

Picking a child care facility is a huge challenge, but if you live in the East End, Interplay deserves to be on your list.
