Some of the best BBQ in the Atlanta area.
I made my second trip out to Hudson's today for their famous barbecue. I didn't see any of the bugs on the wall or rats on the floor must have been an off day for them. On the other hand I just went for the barbecue and stew.
The barbecue was typical pulled pork, very tender, with a good smoke ring and some bark mixed in. I like barbecue to be served without loading it up with the house sauce. That is the only way to know if the smoky flavor came from the cooker or a bottle of liquid smoke. The barbecue today was almost floating in a smoky, salty liquid. Their choices of barbecue sauce are very limited and mild. They call the place "Hudson Hickory House” but I couldn't figure out how the hickory thing fits into the picture. I took a stroll around back after lunch to look for a wood pile and just as I suspected all I saw was a pile red oak. I guess they had already picked out all of the hickory for making the barbecue today.
The Brunswick stew was a little bland with a lot of mystery ingredients run through a grinder. I prefer to see a few chunks of barbecue pork and chicken as well as some potatoes, whole kernel corn and some chunks of tomato along with enough spice to give it a little tingle on the palate.
With all that said it is still some of the better barbecue and sweet tea in the Atlanta area.

Eat at Your Own Risk!!!
This place is about as unsanitary as an eating establishment can become. They have a severe roach issue and they also have a rodent problem. I can only assume that someone is preventing the health department from shutting them down. I have eaten there twice and saw roaches climbing the walls in the dinning room and had one in the Ice in my tea. The second (years later) time a rat ran across the dining room floor(the roaches were still there) and I've never been back. The place smells old and has a mildew odor, it is utterly disgusting and I cant imagine that someone isnt on the take to keep the doors open. It is common knowledge in Douglasville that this place is disgusting and is infested with roaches and rats, so there is no way the health department in unaware, they just let it go on anyway and it wouldnt surprise me if someone eventually died from eating contaminated food at some point in the future, Salmonella can do that to you and is carried by german roaches

Hudosn Hickory House
Hudson Hickory House is both the best and worst of Douglasville. The best Tea and BBQ around are served in the filthiest establishment east of the Mississippi. This place is surely inspected by Larry the Cable Guy. I can't blame the inspector though as I've been eating here all my life. Stick with the BBQ, fries, potatos and stew. If you stray to the steaks, ribs and BBQ chicken you'll be less than satisfied.

The BEST!!!
Hudson Hickory House is the best, better than Williamson, Wallace's or Fred's barbeque!!! I highly recommend everyone to try it once and you will be hooked!!!!!

Best BBQ in Douglasville
Hudsons has been around since 1971. It could not have remained open and with great business for all of those years if the comments below were true. Unfortunately an employee decided to write a review to glorify herself and put down those that she does not personally get along with. The fact remains that Hudsons has the best BBQ around, the tea is out of this world great, and you'll see the same friendly familiar faces you've seen throughout the years. And contrary to the post below, the real beautiful blonde can be found at the take-out register and she has for nearly 25 years now. Hudsons is a family owned business that does it's best to make sure the customers are happy. Of course every restaurant has the occasional disgruntled employee (see below) but overall if you want great barbecue and you're in the Douglasville area, Hudsons is the place to go. Buford Hudson has worked hard all of his life and he has an awesome restaurant to show for it.

Good food but some servers stink~ go in during dayshift all of there nighshift people are druged up
Hudsons has great food and some of the staff is great. But some isnot there is a couple of tyhe servers on dayshift that are rude and hateful. I would not ever let them wait on me again. And do not ever go into the takeout the guys that work in thet kitchen are rude and the swear like something i have never seen. and scott hudson will be standing there and do nothing. The best thing that has ever happen to that place is his wife Teresa. I have asked a waitress about her and this girl just loves her so teresa if you ever read this you need to thank the pretty blonde on your dayshift and fire the blackheaded girl, she is hatefull it has taken me a while to bring my family back in there because of her. So anyone that reads this DO NOT EVER LET A GIRL NAMED DEVON wait on you. her hands are nasty and she does not know what she is doing..
A waitress there had told me that they were trying to cut back on the giving free food away.
Well DEVON has offered to take my ticket to cashier plenty of times and know i do not let her beacuse i seen her put my money in her pocket and i watched her she never took it to the cashier... But the food is the best and if you get the right waitress you have got it made... There is one lady ther who is a sweet heart she is kinda older but she will take care of you and so will the young blonde girl they run circles around everyone else..

Family owned place. Has been around for yr's.
I personally love Hudson's. They have been around for as long as I can remember. They use fresh cut potatoes for their french fries, and their bar b q is excellent. It is very tender and not crunchy like some of the other spots in Douglasville. The service is quick and also their sweet tea is the best in the county.
Now the service there if you are sitting down to eat is not up to par these days. That is the only complaint I have about this place. It is not the same friendly atmosphere it was yr's ago, when you walk into the door. Now YES you do have to seat yourself if it is not busy, but when they are busy the sign does say wait here to be seated. Also for the other person who complained about the way it looked on the inside. It is a bar b q joint. It is not the city grill in downtown Atlanta. Do not expect 4 star accomodations when going here. If that is what you want go out the Ruth Chris steakhouse or something.
Other than the crappy service some servers give you the food is great, and I highly recommend it.
