Great school!

Classrooms at this school are large and sunny with a lot of good materials stocking the shelves, giving children a wide variety of jobs to choose from. The teachers are friendly and well trained, and children are both happy and industrious. Montessori can be very academic, but it is also good for children with developmental disabilities. Making this type of program a good choice for a wide range of kids. My 5 year old is gifted but has motor difficulties, and this has been a very good fit for him. When people say that a school is developmental what they usually mean is that the school is based on educational psych norms which were developed years ago stating what children SHOULD be doing at certain ages. Each child is different though, and at this school, each child's program is highly individualized, making sure that the curriculum is appropriate for your child's TRUE developmental stage.

Glendale Montessori Elementary School is located on Pacific Avenue about a half-mile north of the 134 Freeway. Although it shares a name with the Montessori on Doran Drive, it is a separately run, separately owned school. The school rents its building from Temple Sinai, which occupies the lot next door and shares a parking lot with the school. There are three large classrooms, each housing combination classes of 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th. There is also an art/music room, a basketball court, volleyball area, and a school garden. The strong suit of this school is its teachers. They are passionate and hands on. The curriculum is both traditional and experiential, and the atmosphere is of a closely knit family community. At the helm of this community is director Nina OBrian, a sharp, easy- going woman with a great love for the school, which she runs with (her friends) the teachers.
