missy
When DAV first opened up in Saint Joseph, Mo.; everyone was enthusiastic about it the first year. I was always happy to donate, Since then, the prices have increased double on most clothing items. Prices are also inconsistant with similar or other like items in the store. There are no dressing rooms therefore you are taking a big chance that you have paid too much for a pair of jeans that are just not fitting right! I will not buy clothing that needs to be tried on....

I agree this store has gone down hill in the past 2 years. Store associates are very rude. They act like I'm in their way when I'm looking at clothes and they are pricing items. I'm a paying customer. What is happening to customer sevice now days. Management is calling out over intercom to associates to hurry up, how unperfessional. No dressing rooms,Whats up with that. Think of a solution, like keep the doors locked to dressing rooms until somebody wants to try something on. Get cards with numbers on them that say how many items they are taking in . Limit to a certain number of items they take in fitting room, just like at walmart.Dah,Where did they find the mangement here. Ladies need to try things on.As expensive as things are here now , I will not buy no jeans, shorts, slacks, dress. The prices are getting ridiculous. It should not matter what brand an item is ,It's used people.

customer thoughts
I have always enjoyed shopping here, room to manuver, sizes marked & usually see an employee going thru the racks & shelves straightening. Will admit that the prices are higher & I hope that the employees are getting a little piece of that. People are hanging onto their stuff more or selling on Craigs List, I figure that we still need to buy at these stores before they are whittled out, cause your not telling me that you have never found a bargain here! We need to help keep these Thrifts alive.

Disappointed
I was very disappointed not only at the prices but at the customer services. My daughter was trying to purchase a bed frame and had to ask 3 different sales people for help, none of them had a clue as to the size of the frame and did not even bother to try to find out. Then we were going to buy some shoes, but the price was crazy ($9.98) for a used pair of flats. C'mon you can go to Payless or Walmart and buy new for that price. I think that is wrong for them to price things as high as they do, 'cause we donate our stuff to them and they turn around and make it too expensive for the needy to buy. I can understand make a profit, but hell not a killin'!!!! And get some help that want to be there and help your customers.

thrift shop
This is a great thrift store. Large, many clothes and other items and very well organized. They keep it clean and neat, which makes things easy to find.

Not the Great Thrift Store it Used to Be
As of May 5, 2009, this replaces my earlier, more favorable, review.
Since my last review, this store has really gone downhill.
It is still clean, and very well organized, but several factors have combined to take it off of my list of favorites.
First, the amount and quality of the merchandise has declined sharply. Many days, the racks and shelves are pathetically empty. What IS there is mostly lower quality junk.
They took out the dressing rooms, so you can't even try items on...the place is certainly less customer friendly.
Also, the prices have dramatically increased - in many cases tripled or quadrupled. They are now one of the higher-priced thrift stores. For example, silk neckties here are now $5.98 and $6.98, while at Savers they are only $1.98 for better selection and quality!
In a lot of instances, you can buy the items NEW for the same price as the DAV thrift store price.
I guess with the economy the way it is, their donations are down, making this a l
